As part of our service CSR provides psychometric testing using CATELL's 16PF5

Psychometric testing available to companies and individuals

Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (the 16 PF5) is the most widely researched personality measure currently available and also the most used. It assesses each individual's personality against 16 key scales which reflect behaviour and are extremely useful in predicting job performance.

Companies

No one needs to tell you how expensive it is to recruit and retain staff – apart from the direct costs of recruitment advertising agency fees etc, there is the cost of training, time spent before the employee is functioning to maximum efficiency, lost business opportunities and other costs.

Many companies use psychometric testing to ensure that the employee is the “right fit”. Interviewing is an imprecise “science” and depends on the qualities of the interviewer. Psychometric testing can uncover personality traits which give a better understanding of a candidate and can highlight good and weak points, which may not be apparent at interview.

Using the scores from the 16 Personality Factors, CSR provides a computer generated narrative on the following:

Overview
Interpersonal Relationships
Coping with Pressure
Decision Making & Problem Solving
Team Behaviour

CSR also provide scores on other factors including Belbin Team Roles, Vocational Activities and Social Skills

To gain the maximum benefit from the 16 PF5, CSR have found it useful to compare the profile from a database of staff who have already completed the questionnaire. This allows for comparison with present staff and is more satisfactory than comparing the profile with the population at large. From a database of a company's staff (it would only be necessary to give the questionnaire to the relevant department) you can determine whether managers are employing new staff in 'their own image' or taking on staff to complement the present staff.

For example, in an R & D department it is usually necessary to have some people where the emphasis is on the 'D' in R & D, or else projects can take a lot longer to complete. Obviously the emphasis in each R & D department would be different but, given whatever criteria is set, it would be possible to select staff with the strengths and attributes required.

The 16 PF5 is also useful for selecting staff for training and staff development. It can help identify potential supervisors and managers or highlight strengths and weaknesses in staff.

Individuals

The 16PF5 helps a greater understanding of self and allows us, with apologies to Rabbie Burns, “to see ourselves as others see us”. Whether you are looking to see which vocation you may be suitable, or gain a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, the 16PF5 is an “objective” view of you.
